1. Introduction

This article explains how to install, set up and use your Philips DDL505-5HBS smart rim lock.


2. Safety, Caution and Important Notes

General safety

  • Read and fully understand all instructions before using the lock.

  • Damage caused by not following the instructions is not covered by the warranty.

  • Use only accessories, batteries and components specified for this product.

  • Do not forcibly disassemble the lock; doing so may trigger an alarm or cause damage.

  • Do not scratch the fingerprint sensor with sharp or pointed objects.

  • Keep the product away from water leaks, splashes and corrosive substances.

  • Do not hang any objects on the handle.

  • Clean the surfaces only with a soft cloth slightly dampened with water.

  • Do not remove the batteries while the lock is being set up or operating.

  • Installation or part replacement must be done by Philips, a Philips-authorized service center, or professional technicians.

Battery and power precautions

  • Use only alkaline batteries or the recommended rechargeable batteries with the same specification.

  • Keep batteries away from ignition sources or open flames.

  • Do not short-circuit battery terminals with metal objects.

  • Replace all batteries promptly when a low-battery prompt appears and ensure that battery polarity (+/–) is correct.


3. Packing List

The packing list in the manual includes the following items (refer to the illustrations in the manual to match each item):

  1. Exterior assembly with silicon pad

4. Door Check and Preparation

Before installing the lock, the manual shows how to check the opening direction of the door (left-hand swing or right-hand swing) and instructs you to select the correct installation orientation of the lock accordingly.

You should also:

  • Confirm the door thickness is within the supported range.

  • Confirm the location and size of the existing door hole (or mark and drill according to the template in the manual, if required).


5. Assembly Procedures

The illustrated assembly procedures in the manual (shown for a right-hand swing door; left-hand doors require reversing the interior assembly orientation) are:

  1. Pass the front assembly cable through the door hole.

  2. Secure the mounting plate on the interior side of the door with screws.

  3. Insert the connecting cable of the exterior assembly into the interior assembly.

  4. Install the interior assembly onto the mounting plate and fasten it with screws.

  5. Based on the lock’s installation height and door structure, select the appropriate strike shim (metal or plastic) and attach it to the strike plate; then secure the strike cover with screws.

  6. Insert the battery pack and fasten the battery cover.

Attention: The manual warns you not to bend or damage the connecting cable during installation and to tighten all screws firmly to ensure stable operation.


6. Get to Know Your Lock

Exterior assembly parts

The exterior assembly has the following labeled components:

  1. Lock Status Indicator

  2. Fingerprint sensor

  3. Doorbell button

  4. Keypad (0–9, * and #)

  5. Mute button

  6. Reboot and emergency charging port

Interior assembly parts

The interior assembly includes:

  1. Dead bolt

  2. Thumb turn

  3. Functional button


7. Modes and User Numbers

System modes before setting

The manual defines two system modes:

  • General mode: Any enrolled access method (fingerprint, PIN, etc.) can unlock the door.

  • Dual-verification mode: Unlocking requires both a registered fingerprint and a PIN code.

User numbers

  • Each user is managed by a user number in the lock system.

  • The manual provides a table listing user numbers 00–09 for recording the name, fingerprint and PIN code associated with each user.

  • You can delete individual users by their user number without deleting all users.

The icon legend describes the symbols used in the instructions:

  • Master PIN code

  • One-time PIN code

  • Master fingerprint

Attention:

  1. Press [*] to return to the previous menu.

  2. The default initial PIN code is 12345678.


8. Master Mode

Master mode is used to configure key settings such as the master PIN and master fingerprint.

Master PIN code

To enter master mode using the master PIN:

  1. Illuminate the keypad.

  2. Without entering any other numbers, press the [*] key twice.

  3. Enter the master PIN code.

  4. Press [#] to confirm to enter master mode.

Attention:

  • If the master PIN code is still set to the default (12345678), you must first enter master mode and then change this PIN (by navigating to the setting described in the manual) before doing other operations.

Master fingerprint

To enter master mode using the master fingerprint:

  1. Illuminate the keypad.

  2. Without entering any other numbers, press the [*] key twice.

  3. Place the enrolled master fingerprint on the fingerprint sensor.

Attention:

  • Initially, there is no master fingerprint. The first fingerprint enrolled as described in the manual will become the master fingerprint.

  • The master fingerprint can be used in the same way as an ordinary user fingerprint for unlocking.


9. User Management Settings

Add a user PIN code

To add a normal user PIN code:

  1. Press the [*] key twice, enter the master PIN code, and confirm with [#].

  2. Press [1] to enter the settings menu, then press [1] again to add a user PIN.

  3. Follow the voice prompts to enter the user number and the new user PIN code, then confirm with [#].

Add a user fingerprint

To add a user fingerprint:

  1. Enter settings via master PIN or master fingerprint as above.

  2. Press the key indicated in the manual to add a fingerprint (option [2] in the settings menu).

  3. Follow the prompts to place the desired finger on the sensor several times until enrollment succeeds.

The manual also shows how to:

  • Register fingerprints for multiple fingers for one user number.

  • Delete and re-enroll a fingerprint for an existing user number.

Modify or add a master fingerprint

If no master fingerprint has been set:

  1. Enter master mode (via master PIN).

  2. Press [4] in the settings to enter “add/modify master fingerprint.”

  3. Place a new fingerprint on the sensor as instructed; it will automatically become the master fingerprint.

If a master fingerprint already exists:

  • Enrolling a new master fingerprint via this menu will replace the existing master fingerprint.

Modify the master PIN code

To change the master PIN:

  1. Press the [*] key twice, enter the existing master PIN, and confirm with [#].

  2. Press [1] to enter settings, then press [4] to modify the master PIN code.

  3. Enter the new master PIN and confirm as prompted.

Delete a user

To delete a specific user:

  1. Press the [*] key twice, enter the master PIN, and confirm with [#].

  2. Press [1] to enter settings, then press [6] to delete a user.

  3. Choose the target user number using the keypad keys shown in the manual.

  4. Confirm deletion as prompted.


10. Network Settings (App Connection)

Download the app

The manual shows a QR code and notes that you can:

  • Scan the QR code or search for the Philips EasyKey app in your phone’s app store.

  • Download and install the app before pairing the lock.

Add a door lock in the app

According to the instructions:

  1. Turn on Bluetooth on your phone and open the app.

  2. Power on the lock (if not already powered).

  3. Follow the app prompts to add a new door lock and complete pairing.


11. Daily Use (Operation)

The later pages of the manual describe daily operation, including:

  • Unlocking from the outside using an enrolled fingerprint.

  • Unlocking from the outside using a user PIN code.

  • Locking/unlocking from the inside using the thumb turn.

  • The behavior of the lock status indicator and voice prompts during normal operation and error conditions.

  • Use of the mute button to enable or disable sound prompts.

(Exact button sequences and voice prompt wording are described in the original manual; follow them precisely when operating the lock.)


12. Low-Battery, Error and Alarm Prompts

The manual lists different indicator and voice prompt combinations (LED colors, beeps, spoken messages) for situations such as:

  • Low battery

  • Wrong PIN/fingerprint attempts

  • Lock jam or incomplete locking

  • System errors or malfunctions

Follow the troubleshooting advice in each case as described in the manual (for example, replacing batteries when low battery is indicated, checking door alignment when the bolt is blocked, etc.).


13. Battery Replacement and Emergency Power

Battery replacement

  • Open the interior battery cover.

  • Remove all batteries and insert new ones, observing correct polarity.

  • Close and secure the battery cover.

Emergency charging (Type-C port)

  • If the lock battery is exhausted and you cannot unlock in the usual way, connect an external mobile power bank to the USB Type-C emergency charging port at the bottom of the exterior unit.

  • After the lock powers on, unlock using a normal registered method (fingerprint or PIN).

The manual labels this as a “Type-C port” and shows its location on the exterior assembly.


14. Maintenance and Care

The maintenance recommendations include:

  • Do not use organic solvents, corrosive cleaners or abrasive tools on the lock.

  • Periodically check that screws are not loose.

  • If the product is damaged or malfunctioning, contact Philips or an authorized service center instead of attempting to repair it yourself.
