Is my lock Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and how do I check?

How to confirm your Philips lock's connectivity properly, what changes between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth models, and why the model suffix is not a reliable guide.

This matters, because it decides whether you can use your lock while you are away from home. It is worth checking properly rather than assuming.

Do not go by the model suffix alone

Philips model numbers are similar to one another, and codes such as 5HB, 5HBS and 5HWS look alike but are not always the same product. Two models can differ by a single character and have completely different connectivity.

Please do not rely on the suffix, and please do not rely on a similar-looking model's specification. Check your exact model.

How to check your exact model

  1. Find your full model number. It is printed on the lock and on the box, and it looks like DDL702-8HWS or 7300-5HB. Write down every character.

  2. Check the product page for that exact model on our website, where the connectivity is listed in the specifications.

  3. Or check the user manual for your model, available under Product Manuals.

  4. Or just ask us. Send your full model number in chat and we will confirm it. This is the most reliable option and it takes a minute.

What changes between the two

  • Wi-Fi capable models can be reached while you are away from home. Remote unlocking, and the activity and access history showing who came and went, depend on a Wi-Fi connection.

  • Bluetooth models pair with your phone at close range. They are fully featured locks, but app functions that need the lock to be reachable from elsewhere are not available.

The Philips EasyKey 7300-5HB, for example, is a Bluetooth model.

Before you buy

If remote access or the access log is the reason you are buying, confirm the connectivity of the specific model you are about to order before you pay. Ask us in chat with the exact model number and we will tell you plainly.
