DDL603E-5HWS Troubleshooting: Unlocks From Outside Without Authentication / Cannot Unlock From Inside

Cause: The directional screws are installed in the wrong orientation.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

The heads of the directional screws must face the interior side of the door (inside panel).
If installed in the opposite direction, the lock will operate in reverse, which can cause:

  • The door to unlock from outside without authentication (no PIN, fingerprint, or key tag required)

  • The door fails to unlock from the inside

Important: Directional screws must be installed on the interior side of the door, where the rear escutcheon is mounted.

Steps

  1. Using a screwdriver, fully remove the directional screws and place them aside safely.

  2. Rotate each screw 180°.

  3. Reinstall the screws so the screw heads face the interior (inside) side of the door.

  4. Tighten the screws until snug only. Do not over-torque.

Additional Notes

  • Ensure the direction of the directional screws matches the door swing direction.

  • Incorrect screw orientation can cause reversed lock behavior even if all other components are installed correctly.
