Five things to check before you choose a Philips smart lock. It takes about five minutes with a tape measure.

Philips door locks are designed to be compatible with most standard door types, including wooden, metal and uPVC doors. They work with both left-handed and right-handed swing doors, so handing is not something you need to specify.

This is the most common reason a lock is the wrong choice, so check it early.

Philips smart locks are not weatherproof. They can be installed on an exterior door as long as they will not be exposed to rainwater and direct sunlight. A covered porch or a recessed entry is usually fine. A fully exposed front door that catches driving rain or hours of afternoon sun is not.

Two measurements decide whether a given model physically fits:

Requirements vary by model. Most Philips locks need a door between 38 mm and 60 mm thick, but some deadbolt and rim lock models differ. The DDL250X-14HWC, DDL210S-12H and DDL210S-1H take 35 mm to 55 mm, and the DDL505-5HBS takes 30 mm to 50 mm.
